Tim Schaffner Defensive Coordinator, Butler Community College Tim Schaffner begins his third year as the Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Butler Community College.
In 2006 the Grizzlies defense was again atop the Jayhawk Conference, as the "Craz Dawgs" held opponents to a league best 13 points per game, only 215 yards of total offense per game, and just 56 yards rushing per contest, a mere 1.9 yards per rush. The Grizzlies also lead the Jayhawk Conference with 18 interceptions and 34 take-aways.
Following the 2006 season three Grizzlies linebackers earned All-Conference honors and signed Division I scholarships, including Kensington, KS native Austin Panter, who was named Jayhawk Conference MVP, Region VI MVP, and was selected for All-America honors. In December Panter became the first ever Butler defensive player to earn NJCAA National Player of the Year honors.
In 2005, Schaffner's first season, the Grizzlies defense led the Jayhawk Conference in every major defensive category, including scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, pass defense efficiency, QB sacks and take-aways. Following the 2005 season three Butler linebackers earned All-Conference honors and both sophomore linebackers signed NCAA Division I scholarships.
Tim came to Butler from Eastern Arizona College, where he was the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach. Schaffner also coached at Jayhawk rival Garden City Community College. During his tenure at Garden City, nineteen defensive backs signed with NCAAA Division I or I-AA programs.
Schaffner has coached nine junior college All-Americans and three of his former players have played professionally, including former Kansas State University defensive back Cedrick Williams, who is currently a member of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League.
Prior to coaching at Garden City, Tim was the Head Coach at Ranger College in Texas. Schaffner was also the Defensive Coordinator at New Mexico Military Institute and was part of the 1999 Bronco team that went 10-2 and finished eighth in the final NJCAA poll and won the Empire State Bowl – the school’s first bowl win in 30 years.
Schaffner began his coaching career as the secondary coach at Eastern New Mexico University, where he also coordinated the Greyhounds strength and conditioning programs. Tim also spent two years in London, England, as the co-head coach and free safety for the Essex Buccaneers, leading them to the national championship game.
Schaffner was a four-year starter and All-America defensive back at Westmar College. Tim also started all four years in the outfield and was an all-region performer for the Westmar College baseball team.
Schaffner holds a Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Northwest Missouri State University, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education from Westmar College.
Schaffner is married to the former Holly Maupin, who is the Grizzlies cheer coach. They are the parents of a two-year-old daughter, Tommie Morgan .
